So I have a So Clean to clean my mask and machine, but my therapist said that I need to hand wash the nasal cushion with soap every day that the So Clean won't get it clean?
Questions:
Thanks
Oh my gosh - I just reread your post....the nasal pillow has a small opening at the front that does allow your "exhale" to escape and at the connection point on top of your mask there is a second "exhalation" point. This is totally normal and threw me for a loop the first time I realized that that air was going to blow out all night long.
From a GOOGLE search "How often should I change my CPAP nasal pillow?"
The CPAP mask itself—that is, the harder plastic portion—can be replaced about once every three months. The cushion (or nasal pillows) should be replaced once or twice per month.Jun 23, 2017
This is in keeping with what my sleep therapist instructor also said.
I have the same mask and recently went back to the medical supply offices because I thought it was leaking a bit too much and found out that the nasal cushion needs to be exchanged for a new one every 2 weeks and mine was almost 3 months old.
Thank you. My SD card went bad and I am waiting for my provider to send me a new one. I see my Doc middle of the month and I am looking forward to seeing if he agrees that therapy is working well for me. For the most part, my AHI has been less than 5.5 as low as 2.6 and as high as 7.7 but mostly around 5 - so I feel pretty good.
Mondayz, I had my sleep study on 6/9 and found out that I was averaging 96 episodes an hour with some lasting as long as 40 seconds. I found out that my oxygen was dropping to the low 70% over night. I was anxious and felt like crap and the longer it took them to call me back in for my results to be confirmed the harder each night became. The fact that during my sleep study they put me on therapy and I woke the next morning feeling like I had been given a "happy" pill was beyond disappointing when I learned that it would go away with one bad night sleep. Therapy for me started on 7/8. I am using an Apap set to 8-15 depending on the apnea event. I did exactly what they suggested and played with it the first night, sitting watching TV. The only part that was difficult was/is that I can't talk without air pouring out my mouth and this makes me feel a bit like I am choking. So it's mum's the word if I have my nasal pillow on (husband may say this is an added bonus). I am a full 21 days in and will not go without it. Its not like you don't get tired, if you do stuff where you should be tired you are -- but the mind-numbing exhaustion is gone. For me, frequent wake-ups to use the bathroom, leg and foot cramps, needing a nap 30 minutes after waking, sleeping on average of 10 hours a night, feeling my husband poke me to get me breathing -- ALL that stopped with one night of therapy. I think you will do great. I hope you let us all know.
I understand obstructive and hypopneas but am not sure what a clear airway apneas is and why it wasn't recorded during my in hospital sleep study? The clear airway apneas are the highest number in my morning AHI report. I have my hypo and obstructive down pretty low, but I have had as many as 67 clear airway events in a sleep. Should I be concerned?
I have a dream station and a boat. I found out that my prescription is for a heated hose and humidifier and those are both LOCKED to the on position on my machine. This is keeping me from having the ability to run it on our boat. So I called the CPAP store and found that the Airsense10 can run off a car battery and I ordered one. My question, have I spent a bunch of money unnecessarily? I found this forum and now wonder if one of you have a better answer. My second machine is coming out of pocket as insurance will not pay for the second one.
Hi, my name is Linda and I am newly "medically" diagnosed with severe sleep apnea -- though my husband has been telling me for years. I was in denial for decades and it wasn't until I read a New York Times article that I became aware that there was more to it than being tired and grouchy during the day. It could impact my health and the future I want with my husband. So on June 9th, I had an in-hospital sleep study and I have been on my APAP for a bit over a week.
My question, should my AHI numbers settle down? They've been as high as 10.6 and as low 2.6 this week. I am doing the same routine and was hoping that I would see a set of routine numbers! Also, if your AHI at the sleep study was 96, is an AHI of 10.6 ok? This is in the mild sleep apnea range? I was going to wait for my 30 day follow up, but found your wonderful sight and thought - heck lets see what the community says?
