I am not a dentist so maybe one of the dentist here can address this issue. I think you have confused a mouth guard with a dental appliance for sleep apena. I believe a mouth guard is for people who grind their teeth while sleeping. It is made like a retainer and fits over your teeth. It does not move your teeth at all, just protects your teeth.
I love the SnoreLab app. It is so fun to see how your much you snored during the night or maybe I am just easily amused. I still snore but I am so much better than I used to be. Some nights I don't snore at all and other nights are not so great. I don't use a cpap, just a dental appliance device. Be careful... it records every noise that is made.. including bathroom flushes etc.. Ha Ha
Just a suggestion. I could not fall asleep because every time I did ... I would feel like someone had a hand over my mouth... I could not get air! I got a dental appliance device and it has been smooth sailing ever since. I might still have apneas but I can sleep! Try a sleep dentist.
Try Benzedrex.. it is great for when you wake up in the night and one nostril is blocked. My allergist told me about it. You can buy it at most drugstores. Looks like a chapstick... sort of...
So sorry, I must have not been clear. The radio program I was listening to had a moderator, a sleep doctor (MD) and a sleep dentist (DDS). The sleep doctor was working in conjunction with the sleep dentist. Where I live there is a large military population and the dental device works well for the men/women in the field without electricity. I guess someone needs to invent a solor CPAP machine.
I think where you have your initial sleep study done depends on your insurance. I was listening to a radio show a few days ago and the sleep doc said that with Kaiser Insurance the initial study is done at home and followed up as necessary in the sleep lab. There was a sleep dentist on the show as well singing the praises of dental devices.
Or... maybe you have apneas all the time but it is more pronounced when you are congested.
I think wiredgeorge is giving you great advice. You have to ask for a copy of your sleep study.. you paid for it! Read it, google the things you don't understand and educate yourself! Doctors today are so busy that you have to be your own advocate. The more you know the better you will feel. This forum is a good place to learn. I love my dental device and that is that!
If your AHI's are on the low end I would suggest a dental/oral device from a sleep dentist.
I have a oral device and as I have said here before.. I love it! My AHI's were very high but a cpap was out of the question. I am so thankful that this device exists and that a sleep doctor suggested I give it a try. I am able to sleep soundly every night. If you still feel tired in the morning download the SleepLab app and you will be able to hear everything that goes on while you sleep.
