Hi, I am a sufferer of many years and never seem to be able to get my machine quite right. My latest issue is that I recently was given a 'new' Resmed series 9 machine with humidifier before I went on a trip. I am now in Istanbul and for the last two nights I have a horrible taste/smell coming through the machine about two minutes after turning it on. I have tried the machine with and without the humidifier section but it makes no difference. Any thoughts?

Diagnosing a smell is tough. Most folks who complain of smells are smelling the stuff a mask is made of I would guess. You did not say whether the machine has a filter that could be cleaned or replaced. Have you tried washing the mask with non-scented mild hand soap or something similar? Let us know and the more info you provide, the more likely someone will be able to hit on an answer that will help.

Hi FaithfulAzureDove9863. Depending on how new the equipment is, you might just be smelling the plastic. However, if you suspect the smell is something more (electrical?), please contact the equipment provider and have the machine checked. It is not uncommon for machines and masks to have a slight odor when they are new, but this is usually not something that persists.
