Hello, My brother is in hospital and is suffering at the moment. Do these symptoms sound familiar to anybody ? He is being woken every few hours to be turned. Initially he will drop his phone , then do a massive snore, stop breathing and jump awake with a burning chest . At first he thought it was anxiety but now feels the burning is caused by acid reflux. Any advice welcome ?

I am not a medical professional and cannot give you medical advice. The symptoms you describe, snore, stop breathing, and jump awake with acid reflux can be associated with sleep apnea. I would suggest you ask for a quiz screening for apnea and if that is positive try to arrange for an actual sleep apnea test. Here is an example of the quiz tests for sleep apnea.

Hi stevessis

I'm sorry to hear about your brother. It must be hard for you.

How old is he and what is he in hospital for?

It sounds like your brother should be tested for sleep apnea. The burning is probably caused by acid reflux but that does not mean there is also not something else like sleep apnea which could be deadly if untreated going on. Please encourage his medical team to order that testing.
