Has anybody had experience with RBD (REM Sleep Behaviour Disorder)? It's a disorder where the locks that prevent movement during REM sleep fail. The result is that violent actions in dreams become real actions. Shouting, kicking, hitting, launching out of bed. https://www.mja.com.au/journal/2017/207/6/rem-sleep-behaviour-disorder-not-just-bad-dream

The disorder usually only affects men over the age of 50, however, I am an 18 year old female that has been showing symptoms for at least 6 years now.

I swear, yell, pronounce clear words, hit and kick in my sleep, and have been doing so for years. I know this due to sleepover with friend, school camps, family vacations and the fact that my brother can hear me through the walls (our rooms are right next to each other).

I have to warn people about this if we’re going to share a room so they don’t get scared and worried when I start thrashing and yelling in the middle of the night. And if they do wake me up, I remember the dream.

So I know I have the symptoms, but I don’t know if I have the disorder for sure. I’m scared I’m going t develop Parkinson’s or dementia at such a you a young age, because apparently RBD is a strong indicator for those.

I never knew the implications of my sleep actions until a few days ago, since I’d never looked it up before then. It was just my normal.

But now I feel scared and alone because no one else my age has seemed to experience it and I don’t know what this means for me and my health.

What should I do from here? Does anyone have any experience with this?
