Mostly it would be good to know of anyone who has had any of those procedures & did it cure them or not.
I use an oral device for my apnea, & it works fine. I see some people worried about the device changing their bite, but I have an underbite, so if it moves my lower jaw forward, good on. However I heard commercials from Chicago ENT promoting stuff like radio frequency tonsil reduction, palatal stiffening, pillar procedure, nasal valve repair, full breath sleep appliance,or ballon sinuplasty to cure apnea. I thought if 1 surgery can cure me, why not? I have an HMO so I went to my primary care physician who refered me to an ENT called Dr. Ready to see if I was appropriate for any of those procedures. The ENT tells me that she is not competent to evaluate me for those procedures because in the Chicagoland area only Chicago ENT does those procedures. When I spoke to my primary care doc, he said that those procedures are probably experimental, & I should skip it. I do not think that Chicago ENT is part of my Humana HMO. So I decided that me paying out of pocket for procedures that probably won't work was probably a waste of money. Anyone have opinions about my decision, or opinions about or knowledge about any of those procedures or about Chicago ENT? Also, what is AHI, & what would be an ok score on it?
