I had a family doctor at that time, who referred me to the Sleep Clinic. That doctor has retired do to treatment for bone cancer. Now, there are no family doctors taking patients in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
I stayed overnight at this clinic, without medication. My current medication is Zopiclone (to put me to sleep, then wears off) and Trazadone (to keep me asleep). Trazadone seems to have lost its effectiveness. I am now taking Amitryptilene (spelling?) in addition to the other two. This drug alone had no effect; along with the other two, sleep has improved somewhat. Trazadone is an antidepressant with sleepiness as a side effect. I believe I need a drug dedicated to control of insomnia, not with the mentioned side effect.
I had an overnight hospital stay to confirm my Sleep Apnea.
They claimed the test was "inconclusive". What does this mean? I am taking Zopiclone (to put me asleep) and Trazadone to keep me asleep after the Zopiclone wears off. I can fall asleep, usually, but wake up at about 3:30-4am. Cannot get to sleep after that. Trazadone is actually an antidepressent with sleep-inducing property. Do I require a dedicated insomnia medication, instead of some drug with sedation as a side-effect? The Canadian Health Care System has crashed; I am taking 10 prescription medications for various conditions, but am unable to find a Family Doctor. There are no Family Doctors available in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Don't know if any synergistic effects are active?
Latest prescription is Amitriptylene; has no improvement in sleep. Have resumed Zopiclone and Trazadone, against recommendation of doctors' along with Amitryptilene. This protocol seems to be working better for me, so far.
Have 45 years of Insulin Dependent Diabetes to deal with.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx.
