My original question was poorly worded. I knew that the pressure number was based on my sleep study and set my doctor. He is relatively unfamiliar with the treatment of sleep apnea. So, I wanted to go to him as an informed consumer. If the 5+ events an hour are well within normal ranges and/or changing the pressure would have no effect on the number of events, I wasn't even going to bother to ask him.
Most nights my number of events per hour is between 3 and 6. I was wondering if increasing the air pressure on my CPAP machine would help to reduce that number? My current setting is 9.
At this point It appears that I often achieve AHI numbers below 5. BUT, there are random nights during which the numbers shoot way up- 23, 24, 13, etc. Only a few of those but they do warp the average and are the source of some concern to me. Like Corelli72, I can't identify any obvious issue with the mask and/or the CPAP machine itself.
Is there an acceptable range of AHI's that I should be experiencing?
Thank you for the responses. Excluding the two nights with 25 events, I have averaged 6.95 events per hour. (over a two week period.) Not sure whether I was sleeping on my back those two nights. That would be unusual for me. I will follow up with the equipment provider to see if they have any experience random spikes like this. Like "wiredgeorge" I am concerned if the therapy isn't working as designed. I have no intention of undergoing this torture if I don't get results! So, I will be paying close attention to this issue.
I am a new CPAP user (2 weeks) Checking my results on line I was surprised to see that on two of the nights my events per hour were quite high (24 per hour) even though I was wearing the full face mask and the fit was good. Is this normal or should I be concerned that something else is causing the apnea events?
