BrightSpring (who gives us these names)? I'm brand new to this site. Started tonight. What is APAP? Is that the same as ASV, which I think stands for Auto-Servo Pressure? My latest sleep study showed that on ASV, I went from 92 apneic events per hour to 0 (none)! But Medicare won't pay for it because my central apnea index isn't high enough!!! What a joke!! Anyway, does APAP mean ASV?
I'm new to this site and am wondering WHO gives us our Reply names???? Anyway to impartial violet Rhino, who thinks Apnea machines are a racket-you have to use your CPAP machine every night and all night to get the benefits!!! You're tired because you aren't breathing and not getting oxygen to your brain. What I get fed up with are horrible medical equipment companies ( which I also have) who don't take the time and effort to fit people with masks that FIT and are comfortable!! I finally got (by mistake) a mask that fit, but it's a small and this stupid company sent a size medium insert!!! The small mask decreased my apnea events from 40 an hour to at most 8-25/hour. You have to get a mask that fits and YOU have to USE your machine every night. It is YOUR responsibility to get used to it or else you will keep on killing your brain cells! Doctors do know what to do if they sent you to get a Sleep Study and prescribed a machine. Now it's your turn to USE it or if not, stop complaining!
Hi Susan, I'm brand new to this site, and you're the first person I am talking to! Last year I had a second sleep study and found out I had to switch from CPAP to BiPap. I had no trouble switching, but after a few weeks I was still having too many apnea episodes, so my Sleep doc increased the pressure. Most nights my mask leaked horribly, but unless the noise woke me up, I slept OK. One night the mask fit perfectly well with no leaking, but the pressure made me feel as if my lungs would explode!! I got chest pressure which lasted through the following day, too, and had to use my supplemental oxygen to feel better. I said all that to say that maybe the pressure is set too high for you to tolerate when the mask isn't leaking. Tell your doctor how you felt when your mask did not leak. When I told my doctor he decreased the pressure.
