CPAP machines are a good entry way into CPAP therapy and work very well with a fixed pressure for patients who prefer fixed pressure. However, over time a person's physiology and apnea conditions change which may require manual pressure adjustments for continued satisfactory management of sleep apnea on a fixed machine. AUTOCPAP has basically eliminated the need for ongoing manual adjustments of settings by a DME, automatically sensing and adjusting the pressure settings to manage patient sleep apnea events. An added benefit of autocpap is the machine can be converted to a fixed CPAP machine if the patient prefers a fixed pressure setting machine.
Hope this helps.
