Hi Guys,
I joined this forum today only. I did my sleep study 10th Feb and report and my doctor mentioned that I have severe sleep apnea. Some key values from the sleep study result:
***"AHI - 53.1/hr, RDI - 53.5/hr,
Mean Oxygen Saturation - 95%, Nadir Oxygen Saturation - 76%, Oxygen Desaturation Index (ODI) 30.6/hr
Oxygen Saturation was below 90% for 2.81% of total sleep time.
The ECG showed sinus rythem.
In conclusion, this study showed severe obstructive sleep apnoea associated with moderate oxygen desaturation.
Clinical Recommendation: Clinical review to discuss treatment options, including a trial of CPAP, is suggested.
Sleep study was included EEG, EOG, sub-mentalis EMG, Airflow (nasal potential & thermocouple), Thoracic-Abdominal Efforts, Snore, Body Position, Oxygen Saturation, ECG.tty"***
I am 32 years IT professional. It's worth mentioning that the night I did my sleep study, I was very uncomfortable with the devices put on me. This is why I felt very uncomfortable, anxious and couldn't have a better sleep. I generally sleep well for 7-8 hours without any disruption. I never feel tired when I wake up in the morning. I don't feel sleepy too during daytime. However, I have a condition of muscular degenration due to which my whole body muscles are getting weaker day by day for which I am in consultation with a neurologist. I take vitamins and minerals supplements everyday and I am a vegetarian since birth.
I went for sleep study because I snore really very loud and I wanted to know the cause.
My questions and concerns:
1) I couldn't sleep well when I had sleep study devices on me - can this be a reason for a bad result?
2) It's been 10 days I have been using Resmed CPAP on a trial basis. But, I can barely have the mask for 2-4 hours, maximum being 6 hrs when my mask was changed from nose+mouth to just nose mask. It's because the mask is uncomfortable and I need to get used to it.
3) Will sleep apnea increase my muscle degenration more worse? Or will it improve it?
4) Any expert advise for me to treat this as doctor said CPAP is just a support thing and not the treatment.
Thanks for your time. Look forward to see your response.
