Help!....I am 67 years old....have had sleep apnea for about ten years....have been using CPAP nose clips not the full nose and mouth mask....the last couple of years I have become very claustrophobic and just recently have started having panic attacks.....last week went for sleep study ...but was not able to complete study because of panic attack and claustrophobia.....at home nose clip that I have been using is now causing anxiety.....lately I have been removing nose clip during the night and having terrible sleep issues....waking up gasping for air, sore throat......during the day I am experiencing extreme fatigue, sleepy and not thinking clearly........can anyone identify with what I am going through......also, I need a new cpap machine, mask, hose, etc....but because of insurance I need to complete sleep study to get new supplies.....hope to hear from someone that can share ideas as to what to do.......
Hi Zulema--You are not alone; I know someone who also failed a sleep study due to a panic attack. One approach is to request another sleep study and one single pill for sleep to help get you through the sleep study. Most physicians will acknowledge this is not optimal, but when you need sleep study data, this is one way to get it. I am sure others have thoughts about this as well. Good luck to you and know you are not alone!
