Why are they trying to force me to get a CPAP machine?

I'm slowly dying from heart problems, but nobody seems very concerned. Instead, they want to convince me I have sleep apnea. Each month I have more trouble moving around and less energy, but somehow they seem to think a CPAP tube down my throat will make me feel better.

Are you looking for sympathy, advice or what? If you pay a doctor and the doctor gives you an opinion you don't agree with, get a second opinion. If that second doctor has an opinion similar to the first, perhaps you need to modify your self diagnosis?

Please understand that untreated obstructive sleep apnea puts a substantial strain on your heart and cardiovascular system. In fact, many heart problems can be caused or exacerbated by obstructive sleep apnea. Maybe your physicians are trying to improve your situation by removing that strain from your heart. You need to have a discussion with your doctors to see if this is where they are going with their strategy. Arthur B. Luisi, Jr., D.M.D.

Also note - you don't put a tube down your throat when using a CPAP. You wear a mask, or perhaps use nasal "pillows."

As a heart patient myself (3X CABG, CAD, HF) I can attest to the fact that the use of a CPAP is very beneficial if you are suffering from sleep apnea. Over the past couple of years I have noticed a slow and steady decrease in my abilities to get things done; experiencing SOB, angina, fogged mental abilities in the afternoon, etc. I though it was due to my degrading heart condition. How an ECHO and a nuclear stress test which showed no major changes in my cardiac conditions.

I started using a sleep tracking app on my Apple Watch and noticed some terrible sleep numbers. Been on CPAP for 12 years but never did any follow up. The changes in my sleep patterns happened some slowly, over time, that I didn't even notice. Have met with a Sleep Doctor and going for a new sleep study next week. I know that the settings on my CPAP need to be changed and I need a new machine (current one is 12 years old and has no automatic functions or recording capabilities). I have made some minor modifications on my current machine and have addressed some sleep hygiene items that I have been way too lax about and am seeing a difference already. I can't wait to get on a new, improved machine and get some direction regarding the settings I should be using.

I would strongly recommend that you try it (use of a CPAP device) and see if it helps you. Give it a few months and see if you don't feel better. I bet you will..... Good luck and I hope you find what works for you.

Suggest that if you respond to a post that is more than a week old, the OP probably has never returned and won't read your reply. Good post; probably just wasted on a person who doesn't seem to be looking for sound advice.
