Restless Night with CPAP

I am new to the CPAP, maybe two or so weeks. I keep hearing how some people think CPAP is the best thing in the world. They sleep better. They are more refreshed now, blah, blah, blah. I feel like I am getting less sleep and I am more tired than I was before. All the same, I have sleep apnea which has possibly caused some cardiac issues, so I cannot just give up. I go to bed with the CPAP on, wake up and take it off, wake up again and put it back on, wake up again and take it off. This goes on all night. It is miserable. I want to scream and/or cry. Has anyone had similar issues?

The best advice I got was to take the time to get the best mask system for my needs. Fortunately, my provider had a wide range of choices to try, and once I took one home, I still had 30 days to change. I am comfortable enough, most of the time, that I forget it is there. Good luck, and hope you can get it right sooner rather than later.

My wife has been using a CPAP for nearly 4 years now. She got immediate relief from it, and has used the equipment essentially every night since. She averages 8 hours and 45 minutes a night, and has 100% compliance. I was not such a willing candidate to join the CPAP club. I got cornered by my doctor and reluctantly agreed to a sleep study, which I failed. The one night at home sleep study was horrible. The first night on the CPAP was almost as horrible. Unlike my wife I got no immediate benefit from using a CPAP. I never felt I needed one in the first place, but the sleep study said differently.

That was 6 months ago, and over that time I have gotten slowly used to it, and now can get a good nights sleep with it, and if I dare say, perhaps better than before CPAP. But that has come with a lot of effort. I've tried many things including 5 different masks, and I am at over 20 different revisions of my machine settings. If there is anything that has gone wrong with CPAP, I'm sure I have experienced it!

With that said if you can provide some more information on what you have for equipment, how it is set up and more specifics on what you think is waking you up, I and others here I'm sure can make some suggestions as to what you might try. What would be helpful would be your machine model, your mask model, machine minimum pressure, maximum pressure, start pressure etc.
