Hi, my name is Maureen and I have been using a CPAP machine for three days now. I am wondering if anyone has had this experience and what you have done. I have hearth rhythm issues along with chronic allergies. As such, I can not use any decongestants or antihistamines to clear my sinuses. I have been using saline before going to bed to clear them, but when I wake up, my head is so stuffed up and there is so much pressure in my head. Does anyone else have this issue and what, if any remedies have you used to help? Thanks!

Hi @CreativeElectricBlueQuelea4747 (Maureen). Have you considered talking to your physician about whether a steroid spray, like Flonase, or some other treatment might be suitable? Some CPAP users find nasal strips, such a Breathe Right, helpful. Saline sprays and flushes (such as those done with a Neti pot) can be helpful, and the flushes are usually better at rinsing the sinus cavity. Increasing the humidity setting on your CPAP machine might also be helpful, as dry air can cause irritation and swelling of the nasal passages and sinuses. I hope you find some relief soon! -Dan

I find that when I have a cold or allergies, it helps to keep the humidifier on higher than normal. In the summer I use it on 1 (out of 4). In winter, I use 2 but with a cold or allergies I put it on 3. It helps break everything up. You may have to pull it off a few times and blow your nose but it does help. I've never tried 4!!
