Hi! Has anyone used the product somnifix? It is a mouth strip to keep you mouth closed, it does have a small opening for air. I'm a mouth breather and use chin straps but i find that chin straps are too big for me being I am petite. Bought alot chin straps still struggle with them, even used a Full Face Mask and that's worse for me to use. I use a Nasal or pillow Mask. Would like to get rid of chin strap if possible for comfort sake. Any info would be great Thanks

I do not use that specific product but I mouth tape every night using 1" 3M Nexcare paper medical tape (Micropore). It costs $2 or so at Walmart and a roll lasts a long time. I just fold over about 1/4" of the end so that part does not stick to my face, and makes it easy to remove in the morning, or if you get up at night. I tape from left to right horizontally. I also use a Breathewear Halo chin strap, and have tried the tape only, but it doesn't seem to be enough to keep my mouth closed. Also I use the AirFit P10 mask with the flimsy headgear system, so the chin strap helps a lot in keeping the headgear in place overnight. Here is a video and article on mouth taping that has been put together by a dentist. I have found the 3M tape works perfectly for me, and have found no need to buy a specialty product. I see no need for a hole in the tape when the purpose is to make you breathe through your nose.

Thank you, Sierra I was wondering if 3m tape would work on mouth closing. Have you had any problems mouth opening during the night with the tape?

Yes, I did have issues with it when I first tried it when not using the chin strap. Since that time I have discovered that the tape works much better if your wash your face right before putting the tape on to get rid of any oils on your skin. The tape never comes off when combined with the chin strap. Have not tried the tape only without the chin strap since I have been doing the face wash trick. Also, I know I will have problems keeping the P10 mask on without the chin strap. The 3M tape is cheap to try. Should be at your local Walmart.

I only have experience with Micropore and it works well. Suspect the Duropore may be less common outside of a hospital and may be more difficult/expensive to get, but that is just a guess. According to 3M the Micropore can tolerate some moisture, but on dry skin the Duropore has more adhesive strength. See this link.

I find the Micropore has just the right amount of adhesion. Stays in place providing you wash any oil off, and is reasonably easy to remove in the morning without leaving any residue.

Curious. How does your skin react to the daily taping? I'm desperate to get cpap therapy to work but have very sensitive skin. I break out easily.

I use the 3M Nexcare Sensitive Skin tape, and find it does not irritate my skin at all. 3M claim it is designed especially for those with sensitive or fragile skin. See info at link below:

3M Nexcare Sensitive Skin Tape

Edit: Correction! I just looked at an unopened package of the tape I am using, and it is marked Nexcare Gentle Paper Non Irritating Tape. I suspect it is the same as the sensitive skin tape... Here is a link to a description. Looks virtually identical to me. Perhaps US vs Canadian marketing??

Nexcare Gentle Paper Tape

On a closer look, the tapes are not identical. The Sensitive Skin tape is blue. The Gentle Paper tape is white. The Gentle Paper is made in the US, and the blue stuff not specified. The Gentle Paper is a Micropore tape.

I suspect either one would work. I have only tried the white Gentle Paper type and it works fine. It is also available at Walmart here for a good price!

I have been using the Nexcare sensitive paper tape and getting great sleep results. Face hasn't broken out at all. I do find the tape sticks to my lips too much if I don't apply chap stick first.

I finally convinced my wife to try the mouth taping trick. This is the result in SleepyHead. Time over the leak redline went from 17% to essentially zero. She is using the F&P Brevida nasal pillow mask.

With no mouth taping:
