I have no experience with OSCAR, but I believe it is the same open source software, but with some minor improvements. There was a disagreement between Mark Watkins the original developer of SleepyHead, and some others who were assisting with the development. Mark has decided to step back. The remaining team is now developing the software. I suspect either OSCAR or the older SleepyHead will work fine for you. SleepyHead does have a few minor bugs, but I find it quite acceptable to use.

If I did not already have SleepyHead installed, I would download the OSCAR version. Seems like your odds of support in future will be better.

The difference between them will grow over time. That is what happens when one is supported and the other not. OSCAR is a fork of SleepyHead v1.1.0 and as such it has the same core, and currently many of the same issues, but honestly either should work for you now.

Just got a new computer. If I download Oscar, can I assume my historical data will be lost?

No, We put a good amount of effort into the ability to migrate SleepyHead data to OSCAR.
