I've been getting extremely sick with sinus allergies the last couple nights - starting in the middle of the night. Never had this happen before...
So I cleaned my Dreamstation components yesterday by soaking them in vinegar, rinsing with water and drying - hose, mask, main filter, reservoir.
Started getting sick in the middle of the night, and I'm a sorry mess right now at 8 am.
Is there a component of my Dreamstation that I am neglecting to clean ? I have no explanation of why I am fine when I go to bed and wake up at 3am sick as a dog blowing my nose.
Help !
thank you,
Doug
About the only thing I do different is use a water and Dawn dish cleaning soap wash after the vinegar and before the final rinse with water.
One thing you might want to consider doing is getting some HEPA or Hypoallergenic filters for your DreamStation. They are finer than the standard filters and may help to remove pollen.
I assume you have a heated hose and are using the humidifier in automatic mode?
good idea on the HEPA filters and yeah I have a heated hose and humidifier - though I have turned the settings down on these because its warmer. I'll try turning the setting up on the humidifier. Just not sure what is causing my extreme reaction, since I have a top of the line room air purifier and have not ventured out of the house. thanks as always for helping...
BTW, that P10 nasal pillow has been working soooo great. Finally able to get some comfortable sleep AND as I step up the pressure very slowly my overall AHI keeps trending down (around 2.5 now) . Oh, and I did a modification to taping my mouth shut that works well for me - put a small slit about 1/2 inch in the tape has helped me feel less claustrophobic and makes it easier to quickly rip the tape open if I need to sneeze, etc. The tape still holds my mouth from slacking open. well, it works for me...
I believe there is a commercial product that has the slit cut in it. Probably a lot more expensive than doing it yourself. I just fold over an edge of the tape to make it easy to remove. But I do find if I remove it in the night it does not stick well enough again without using new tape...
just wanted to thank you for suggesting P10. Although all other masks I tried were seriously swelling my face. Maybe the P10 offers some therapeutic benefit for my sinuses, which have been an issue for me "forever". Thanks ! Hey, I've learned I can talk in a limited way through that slit in the tape, although my wife isn't sure she agrees it's a benefit !
