Folks from USA/Canada
Did you ever have any trouble using your CPAP machine (Air Sense 10) abroad (Asia/Europe/Central America)?
Looking for advise as I am scheduled to visit Europe and the Mexico sometime in October/November..
I understand I need to carry a travel adapter for the electrical sockets , but any issues other than that? For example, how easy/hard it is to get distilled water in Mexico for the humidifier?
Have not traveled to Europe with our machines, but have done Mexico. Europe should be no problem if you have the correct power plug adapter. Check your power adapter but most machines now will accept 120 or 240 volts AC. The AirSense 10 does both voltages.
In Mexico the resorts generally use the same plug in design as USA/Canada and 120 volts. Finding distilled water in Mexico can be an issue. It does not seem to be commonly stocked in the pharmacy stores and big box stores like in Canada/USA. Some report finding it at automotive places that sell it to add water to batteries. You might find reverse osmosis treated water sold as bottle water for drinking, but we could not find any last time we went. For a couple of weeks we just use tap water or resort supplied bottled water. If you rinse it out each day minerals do not tend to build up, and if you clean it thoroughly with vinegar when you get home, any residual is removed.
The type of power supply fitter to these machines will operate in most countries in the world, with a few rare exceptions.
Europe is not a problem with 230 to 250 volts AC it will not be a problem. We can buy a machine from America and plug it in here and it will work fine.
Bring an adaptor and an extension lead for your machine as power points tend to be some distance from the bed, typically the other end of the room. Put a twin socket extension on you extension cord to plug in your phone to have the phone near you (if you need to use it at any time) otherwise it will be at the other end of the room.
This is not unusual for hotels in Europe, a 6mtr 6amp extension should cover most rooms though a 2mtrs to cover all. You do not need a heavy extension even with the phone charger plugged in.
