Hello.... I am not new to CPAP. I have used the ResMed S9 for 5 years, and after an adjustment at the beginning, loved the machine and the therapy it was providing. It was a comfort to put it on at night! I was 100% compliant and always joked that I was the "poster child for CPAP machines"! Now, all has changed! I upgraded (?) to the S10 a couple of weeks ago, and this adjustment is SO MUCH WORSE than it was at the beginning of my therapy! I am feeling like my breathing patterns are all messed up. It's sometimes hard to inhale, and sometimes hard to exhale. My pressure has not changed and is quite low (5-12). MyAir reports are good with the exception of the "mask on/off" score. When I'm feeling clastrophobic, I take the mask off for a little while and breath normally ....many times a night. The technician at my supply store has given me lots of things to try to make it more comfortable, (She's actually been great!), but it's just not working and I'm not sleeping. I've searched to see if others have trouble adjusting to this new machine, but most reviews I've read are glowing. I'm sad that I'm not one of them!

I'm about ready to throw in the towel and go back to my old machine. Can anyone relate to this and/or give me some much needed advice? I'll sure appreciate any and all suggestions! Thanks!

Not sure why a CPAP machine would be gender specific. Strange. Perhaps someone can explain this. What type mask are you struggling with? I have three different mask types and can easily use two but the other, a nasal mask (WISP) that I just can't use for many of the same reasons you have issues with. First mask I used was an Amara View but I had issues with it and went to a Simplus. I fixed the issues (leakage) and now really like the Amara View more. It has no big hunk of plastic between my eyes and stays sealed nicely. It is similar to a nasal mask but covers the mouth. The problem with the WISP is that I couldn't exhale through the exhaust holes; just not enough size to them.

Hi DBABB. Have you had your technician check to make sure all other machine settings (like EPR, ramping, etc.) are set properly? There are more settings on the s9 and s10 than just the pressure range. Also, is the mask type set correctly? It may be a good idea to try to have them compare setting by setting, if possible. I have an s9 and an s10 as well, and I did notice a small difference when I started treatment. I found that my EPR was turned off on the new machine but at a setting of 2 on my old machine. Just a thought, and I hope you are able to solve the problem. Best wishes, and please let us know how you are doing!
