Do you have any suggestions on how to prepare for my husband’s first appointment with the dentist this Friday? They said they will take the impressions for the oral appliance at this appointment. Thank you!

I am a dentist working in dental sleep medicine. Actually, there is very little to do. They will just take upper and lower impressions and a special bite record. The only thing that I can think of is to brush and floss carefully to make his mouth super clean and free of plaque. That way you will get the sharpest and best impressions. Arthur B. Being afraid of dentists it's a common thing among adults. However, if you want to help him, you should understand when this fear began and why. It will create a much better understanding of how to help him. For me, it was enough to change the specialist and go for an appointment one time. I have been working with crowndentalgroup.com.au for some years now, and I feel at home, every time I visit them. Moreover, they have an online chat, you can ask them if they have any tips, I am sure they'll love to help you.

I would amend that a bit. Adults USED to be afraid of going to the dentist. Witth new technology and better pain control, far fewer adults have dental fear today than 30-40 years ago. Getting an oral appliance is pretty benign stuff. You just get an upper and lower impression and a special bite record. No pain. A few patients do experience gagging with the upper impression, but a skilled dentist can work around it or use digital technology. A.B. Luisi, D.M.D.. The Naples Center For Dental Sleep Medicine.
