I started wearing a dental appliance for mild sleep apnea about a month ago. So far, I'm waking about every 2 hours (not sure why) throughout the night. The doctor has instructed me to "advance" the appliance only slightly. Also, my eyelids and under my eyes are swollen. Am I the only one? What is the relationship between the appliance and edema?
Hi Wendy. I use a TAP 3 Elite dental appliance, but have never experienced any eye problems. Most complaints concern either jaw or teeth soreness. What kind do you have? I have never heard of any relationship between an oral appliance and edema. Advancing your lower jaw should have no effect on your eyes. Perhaps your eyes are swollen from lack of sleep.
