I woke up this morning with a very small pressure sore on the inside of my left nostril which I assume was caused by the Fisher Paykel Pilairo nasal pillows I received recently. I had been alternating it with my Fisher Paykel Eson 2 until a few days ago, when I started using the Pilairo exclusively. I sleep on my left side, so I'm concerned that this could become a real issue the more I use the Pilairo. Other than alternating masks, is there something I can do to prevent the pressure sore from happening? Is there something I can apply to the inside of the nostril that won't mess up the silicone of the mask?

DWalsh, I can't use nasal pillows or just a nasal mask because of the pressure I use. I use a full face Amara View and it is likely less obtrusive for side sleep than the Eson 2 you have been using. No big center support and it fits up under your nose. Not sure about what can be done with the nasal pillows to keep from getting sores other than alternate masks. Perhaps some vaseline which I doubt would hurt the silicon but this is just a guess.

Hi DWalsh. You can do an internet search for CPAP nasal cream and find some options that might help. I do encourage you to contact your physician so they can at least have a record of the problem and provide some advice. Until the sore heals, it is probably a good idea to avoid the Pilairo. It is not uncommon for nasal pillows to cause some irritation early on, and this usually resolves with time. When I first started wearing nasal pillows, I had to alternate with a nasal mask. I eventually adjusted, and I now only wear the nasal pillows.
