Getting a straight price quote from DME supplier.

Hi,

I have just been diagnosed with CSA and Complex SA, and so was prescribed a DreamStation ASV machine. I have medicare and medicare advantage health plan. What I thought would be a logical and easy experience is turning into a frustrating nightmare. My local supplier, which is in a rural area quoted in the beginning what I thought was a reasonable price, then 3 days later upped it by 40%, so obviously I did not rent from them. I cannot get a DME supplier to give me a quote without having to supply them with my prescription, sleep study and case notes??!! I want to compare prices and make an informed decision but it's becoming an impossibility. I have asked my health plan for help but am getting nowhere.

Has anyone on the forum experienced this, or am I going about this the wrong way? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I am from Canada and can't help you with the DME issues. However on cost, one of the large CPAP supply vendors lists both the DreamStation and ResMed ASV machines for the same $2890 price. See these links. There may be cheaper places to buy than this if you search around on the net.

I don't have experience with the ASV machines, but in the CPAP machines, I have a slight preference for the ResMed machines.

Thanks for the links. Yes I saw the great price on the machine I was prescribed, now if only I could buy it through my insurance but the website doesn't take insurance, and it would defeat the point of me being on Medicare. But I will discuss it with my health plan insurance if I get another ridiculous quote from another vendor.
