Hey everyone,
I was hoping there are some members who are well-read on oxygen saturation levels. I've recently purchased a pulse oximeter for overnight monitoring, so I was hoping to gain some insight about the readings. Some of the questions I was hoping others could answer are:
1) What's considered a low oxygen-saturation level?
2) Are drops of 4% in oxygen dangerous?
3) Does anyone else have oxygen saturation data they would feel comfortable sharing?
Thanks for taking the time to read through my post! Any commentary is welcomed
I have no personal experience. I run on the assumption that if my apnea is under control then I will not have significant oxygen desaturations. I found this on a quick google search on how to understand the results from a sleep study.
"Oxygen Desaturation
Reductions in blood oxygen levels (desaturation) are recorded during polysomnography or limited channel monitoring. At sea level, a normal blood oxygen level (saturation) is usually 96 - 97%. Although there are no generally accepted classifications for severity of oxygen desaturation, reductions to not less than 90% usually are considered mild. Dips into the 80 - 89% range can be considered moderate, and those below 80% are severe."
