Resmed Airsense 10 hissing

I have had my resmed airsense 10 capap for sleep apnea for four years. It has started hissing on and off in the middle of the night. Take the water/humidifier chamber out and putting it back in usually helps the problem. I have already replaced the chamber and tubing and that doesn't change the situation. Calling resmed or cpap supplier does not help. Has anyone had this problem? I think it might be the gasket type parts that are between the chamber and the unit but they do not necessarily look easy to get out and I haven't seen them available doing a quick google search. I wanted to post a picture of it but that function doesn't seem to work correctly on this site. Anyone else have similar experience with their cpap and been able to fix? thanks

I have an AirSense10 that is a bit newer, but probably just the same. I have not noticed any hissing but occasionally I hear a clicking sound with each breath. I have found that happens when the water reservoir is not firmly pushed into the main housing. You are right that there are some silicone seals between the two parts, which may be aging and not sealing as well. They can be replaced. Here is a link to a manual that shows how. See page 24. you may want to start by taking it apart and inspecting/cleaning the seals. Silicone is pretty durable. Perhaps the parts are dirty or have slipped out of place.

You should be able to buy seals. This site shows one of them in a kit. Perhaps other places will sell the seals only.

Hi ydono, I have the same problem with mine. Sometimes it sounds a lot like rhinoceros as I inhale. Not kidding. The rhinoceros makes a kind of nasal whistle that sounds just like my machine. Like you, taking the humidifier out and putting it back and sometimes helps. When that doesn’t help, taking it out, opening it up, taking out the gasket, putting the gasket back in, closing it up, and putting the humidifier back in usually does the trick.

Something I’ve been trying for the past few days is putting a rubber band around the whole unit lengthwise so the humidifier is being pushed in more tightly. I haven’t had any problems since, so maybe it’s working.

Another thing that occurs to me is that if the noises are starting in the middle of the night, it must be that something is changing over the course of the night. I’m wondering if it could be that heat in in some part of the machine increases as the water level goes down, and that causes some part to expand and lose its seal. Maybe if we turn down our humidity level it will reduce the problem. I had my humidity level and 7. Do you also have yours at a fairly high level?

Re: Noise Airsense 10. To help eliminate noise from the unit lightly coat the air ports of the humidifier with Vaseline and do the same for the air ports on the unit itself. This worked for me.
