I’m a veteran Cpapp user. I moved to the auto version in 2002. The fantastic change to my life has mellowed a d I’m seeing recurrence of many of my initial problems with OSApnea. After two sleep tests I was prescribed a 10cm pressure. Of late I notice the Auto Cpapp has raised pressure to 16. I have difficulty getting to sleep, wake up a few times at night and don’t feel refreshed and attentive in the morning. I get dry mouth, dry nose and do have difficulty breathing. Does anyone know why this could be happening?

It is easy to switch the machine to fixed pressure CPAP mode. If you can get a low AHI with a fixed pressure of 10 cm then that would be a good thing to try. With respect to the dry mouth and nose, so you have a heated hose on the machine. If you do it will set the humidity control at auto which should get the humidity right. The other possibility if you are using a nasal mask is that you are opening your mouth while sleeping. That lets air escape and can give you a very dry mouth.

Are you getting blow-by?, by that I mean is air being forced out of your mouth when on the machine. I was getting Blow-by on my Rx of 10-13, the pressure was just too high. I experimented with different pressured in CPAP mode (nasal pillows) and settled on a setting of 5.2, Climate Control on Auto ( heated tube). If you continue to experience dry mouth consider getting/using a chin strap to keep mouth from dropping open. Good Luck.

Thanks to all those that gave me useful hints on how to control excessive pressure. Fixed the pressure and it works fine now.

How did you fix the pressure?
