I woke up this morning with a strange feeling like fatigue from excercise or something. I quickly started monitoring my heart rate and watched the rate gradually spike above and fall below my resting rate of 64 bpm. (as low as 51 and as high as 99) just wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

That sort of thing can happen coming out of REM directly to wake. So it may be an indication that PAP allowed you into REM--a good thing. But if it concerns you, I would never discourage anyone from mentioning something like that to a doc.

"REM is the stage of sleep when you have most of your dreams. It is only about 20% of your total sleep time. Your blood pressure and heart rate can go up and down during this stage. If you have a nightmare that wakes you up, you may find that your heart is racing."-- http://sleepcenter.ucla.edu/heart-disease

I believe it can feel much the same when an alarm clock yanks you out of REM suddenly, if that's what happened.

The only thing is that these fluctuations went on for most of the day.

I have no idea, then. I only know a little bit about a few things related to sleep. What normsl cardiac behavior is during the day and how it may or may not be affected by CPAP is well outside my wheelhouse. Sorry.

Anything unusual for me with heart behavior would make me call my doc.

Yes I have done a full cardiac assessment previously which found no abnormalalities. Having said that a doctors appointment is my thoughts as well. Thanks for your input I appreciate it.

Wow! Another Australian! If in doubt, mention it to your doctor. Spikes in your heart rate are not unusual in REM, but err on the side of caution.
