When napping, do you use the CPAP and mask? Or just at night for the longer hours? After cleaning the mask, tube, and humidifier in the morning, I hate to have to do it all over again after a short nap.
GlobalTim, I know someone that did this also, took their mask off. They are going to try the full face mask that just came out. ResMed Airtouch F20. They use a memory foam pillow insert instead of the plastic/silicone so it will be more comfortable and less apt to take it off in your sleep. The nasal version is Airtouch N20.
I bet you will do better with a full face mask if you breath out of your mouth. I did read that people with sleep apnea breathe through their mouth more (from having to catch their breath when they stop breathing during the night). That doesn't sound like your case though. Sounds like you have allergies maybe. My CPAP has a humidifier and is set at 4 for the summer months but if my nose starts feeling stuffy or dry, I was told to set it higher. I know some nose mask people keep a full face mask on hand for when they get a cold and stuffy nose. Also, there are mouth masks now for mouth breathers. The nose is clipped or something like that so you don't breathe thru your nose during the night. So many options today!
Ah, I found this explanation here on the forum. "The AHI is an index, so it is an average of total events per hour. An AHI of 0.5 would indeed indicate that you are having about 1 event every 2 hours. Someone who sleeps for 8 hours and has an AHI of 0.5 would have 4 events over the course of the 8 hours." So it looks like 0.9 is very good. Better than 51 episodes per hour in my home sleep study test! I wore the mask for 6.30 hours last night.

I was told to use Palmolive, a mild dish detergent and warm water. Simple as that. Right now I'm using Dawn. They said that was fine but I'm going to purchase Palmolive next time I grocery shop.
My first good night of using the CPAP was last night! My sleep apnea episodes per hour was 0.9. I guess it's a good score but what does it mean? Less than 1 episode per hour? Then shouldn't it be 0.0? My home sleep study showed 51 per hour. Thank you. Have only been using CPAP for three nights now. The first two nights were awful. Tried two different masks (pillow and nose). I'm trading in my nose pillow mask for the newer ResMed P10. Less leaking, less facial marks, great for side sleepers from the reviews I read. The Swift FX just didn't work for me. The nose mask made my mouth fill up with air and leaked out, gave me a sore throat. So glad I found this forum!
I too felt claustrophobic with the nose and full face masks. So they (the overnight sleep center) fitted me with the nose pillow mask. I immediately loved it. The nose pillows come in small, medium, and large. Small worked best for me. Now I just have to learn how to keep my mouth closed all night. I refuse to wear a chin strap! Someone recommended medical tape across the mouth. I'm on my third night with the CPAP. First two nights were awful. Last night was 98% better! Don't give up!
