I have been using my new cpap machine for 5 days, getting 8-9 hours of restful sleep a night, and I feel exhausted beyond belief! I had no problem adjusting to the pressure or the face mask, the pressure setting is variable and I'm using the warmed humidity. So why am I unable to function when I get up & drag myself out of bed in the morning?! I even went back to bed for a nap today, after a full night of sleep last night.
The cpap is fine - I even look forward to going to sleep with it - but daytime is terrible! I have zero energy, my body aches, and I feel like I've been run over by a Mack truck!
There is no chance I will stop using it, as I know the health consequences I've been living with. But can anyone explain WHY I'm so tired, if it's not discomfort-related? Could it be increasing my lung capacity, recruiting accessory muscles infrequently used, or some other physiologic reason? Is my brain needing to "reprogram" to deal with the relative abundance of oxygen (compared to a low of 79% O2 saturation on my sleep study)?
Any ideas?
