I started my own business at 22 to give me flexibility of working hours because I had struggled getting up in the mornings through all my school, college and working for someone else years. At the time I had no idea that my issue was sleep apnea. I just knew that every morning I felt like I had been run over by a train. Once in business for myself and able to adjust my working hours, I was able to thrive. I found that I was most energetic and productive in the afternoon and evening hours. The traditional working world did not accommodate that time frame.
I was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea in my late 20ies. At least, I now had an explanation for all my morning struggles. Now 34 years later, I am still self-employed. Even after treatment, I still prefer sunset vs. sunrise!
Tell me more about Jaw Surgery that hopes to cure. That is interesting.
DreamWear Mask is a game changer! I love it!
I would suggest that you have a sleep study to see exactly what is happening while you are sleeping. Sleep apnea and other sleep issues undiagnosed and untreated can be so dangerous to your health and the underlying cause of many issues. Once the exact diagnosis is clear, you will better be able to determine the best remedy. You certainly don't want to do anything that would mask your symptoms but not remedy.
RebeccaR, thanks for a fabulous and well articulated summary of our Patient, Researcher and Clinician collaborations during Sleep 2017! Everything happens in conversation and this meeting was a great example of that principle in action! I feel quite certain that all attendees walked away with a new perspective and empathy for each other as we work together to mend the frustrations for all multi-stakeholders.
I would agree with getting a second opinion! I had two most painful surgeries that did not work. There are those who are making recommendations for $$ vs making recommendations in he best interest of the patient. Choose clinicians wisely and check their reviews carefully!
Just discovered Phillips Respuronics DreamWear Mask last week and feeling so much freedom with repositioning of the hose!
I have hated and loathed my CPAP mask for the entire 20+ years I have been treated for sleep apnea. Granted that I feel so much better when I wear it. One of my major goals on life was to find an effective alternative to CPAP. Advances are being made but not quickly enough for me. However, last week I discovered a Phillips Respironics mask that has the hose attachment on the top of your head vs. the front of the mask. That little change has resulted in so much freedom from what used to feel like a cumbersome mask. Kudos to Phillips for this major breakthrough mask design.
My son has struggled with a full face mask and nasal pillows. We just discovered that Phillips Respronics has a mask that fits around your nose but does not have the pillows that go inside your nose. My son is having much better results with this mask.
Wow! What an experience! I think I would be doing a revisit with my sleep doctor or maybe a new sleep doctor.
