Thank you wiredgeorge. You always have good suggestions. The doctor did another sleep study to find the right levels as he is switching me over to bipap. I asked for the sleep lab's Amara View this time instead of my own, and still had the same problem at the very end, but when I moved the hose a little, the noise stopped. My end pressure was 14/10 --- obviously no where near as high as your settings. And the noise was less on the bipap as opposed to the cpap.
I have also tried the Quattro FX. The mask sound increases as the pressure increases, but the sound makes sense to my ear, and is still relatively quiet. The Amara view sounds more like a leak, and yet there is no leak. On the Bipap, the noise was only present on the inhalation and only at the higher pressures.
I'm going to stick with the Amara View because the mask is so comfortable. Hopefully, my brain will start to realize that there is no leak.
Also, what do you think of the Respironics Dream Station, or do you have another suggestion for a bipap machine. Do you have any helpful hints to make the adjustment to a bipap, or is it no big deal?
That you haven't had that problem is encouraging. My pressure setting is 15-18. Do you think that is too high for the mask?
It's actually on loan to me from the doctor so maybe when I order one, it will not have that problem. I was also wondering if a connector tube that has rubber fittings at either end might solve the problem. Are you aware of any manufacturer that might make a tube that fits?
Thanks for your help.
I have finally found a mask that solves a lot of the problems --- The Amara View, but I am having trouble with the connector tube to the mask. It makes a leaking sound, but I cannot feel any air escaping. It's quite loud and resembles a mask leak in sound, but the mask is perfectly sealed. If I move it around, I can eventually get it to stop making the sound, but it starts again when I fall back to sleep and move slightly. I've tried detaching and reattaching it, but that does not solve the problem.
Has anyone else had this problem? How have you solved it? I really like the mask and would like to keep using it.
Thanks.
Thank you for your help. I tried the tape with the F10 this afternoon and think it might work. This website is so helpful.
Thank you for replying. I have one more question for you. The directions for the Amara View say to open your mouth slightly when fitting it to your face. The minute I turn on the CPAP machine, my cheeks puff out and stay that way. My head nor jaw have dropped. Do you know what would fix that problem? If so, maybe I'll be able to use the Amara View mask, although I do like the F10 better.
I am having to change masks. I am petite and have a small face. I am trying the Resmed F10. It was sized correctly. I wash my face before I put it on. It starts out great. I get a good seal, and it is so much more comfortable than other full face masks. I can fall asleep easily, but then am awakened because the bottom of the mask has slid to the point where it actually reaches my mouth and breaks the seal regardless of how much I tighten or loose the upper or lower straps.
Has anyone found solutions to this problem? I would really like to stick with this mask if possible.
I also have the Amara View to try, but find that when I turn on the CPAP, my cheeks puff out and remain that way, even though the mask stays sealed. It makes my inner cheeks feel very tired, like they've been blowing up balloons for an hour. I don't have that problem with the F10. My pressure setting is 13-15.
Thank you.
I mentioned that I don't understand why it's suddenly not working. I've used that method successfully for a year now without any problems. I even opened 2 packages of my chin strap to make sure that that was not the problem. I'm 56 and a female. My doctor said that apnea gets worse for menopausal women. That's the only thing I can think of, but my method has worked beautiful until the last 2 weeks with hardly any problems on the computer read-out.
Thank you everyone for your help. I will try all the suggestions. I don't understand why my method of taping, using a chin strap and nasal pillows is suddenly not working, but that seems to be the way it is.
My boil and bite mouth guard should arrive any day, and I will try the head band too.
Thanks again!
Thank you very much. I'll give that a try.
My pressure setting is 13-15. I am a petite female and have had to use the Resmed P10 mask because I cannot get a good seal with full face masks.
I have used the P10 for a year along with the basic Respironics chin strap to keep my tongue in the right place and my mouth from opening. I also tape my mouth shut to prevent any small leaks. This has been effective until recently, even with a new chinstrap. I'm getting chipmunk cheeks, and my mouth is opening slightly, even when I tighten the chin strap. If I tighten it too much, I get a bad headache.
I have also tried the Resmed Premium chin strap and the Puresom classic chin strap, the latter which irritates my skin. And I have tried a neck brace.
I have two questions:
Would an oral devise in conjunction with the nasal pillows eliminate the need for taping and the chin strap, yet keep my tongue in place?
As a second option, is there a full face mask for a petite face? I really like the Resmed F10, but it will not keep the seal when my head relaxes and lowers slightly, and that's before I fall asleep and my jaw drops.
