I have been using a Tap for about a month. Still adjusting to it. My jaws clicks on the right side. It doesn’t hurt, but it’s kind of annoying. I have a very small amount of jaw pain when I first remove the mouth piece, but nothing too much after. Can my appliance be adjusted to stop the clicking?
Thank you for your response.
I realize that each case is unique, but was wondering if anyone can share how many turns you needed on your tap appliance before you started to find the “sweet spot”.
My tap defaults before any turns at about 50% of my range according to my dentist. I have only done one half turn so far. Lol.
Thanks!
If you have apnea, try getting that corrected first before you start treating yourself something else is my suggestion. If the apnea improves your anxiety may subside as well. If not, then seek out help for the anxiety.
Thank you!
Definitely can cause anxiety and panic as every time you stop breathing your body triggers the fight or flight response to wake you so you start breathing again. And all that cortisol in your body creates lingering anxiety. Before I was treated for apnea (and my mine is mild), I would always get out of bed with morning anxiety. This foreboding feeling. Literally, after the first night using the appliance that feeling pretty much went away. It's crazy. I feel so much calmer now.
I have an oral appliance. I got it right after my study. I didn't wait for insurance to pre-approve. I wanted to start sleeping again so I just paid for it. LOL.
Sounds like you have sleep anxiety in addition to OSA and that the Temazepam helps you to relax. I can say I had similar sleep anxiety issues, but I don't like sleep medication. Only recently I found out I have mild OSA. However, since treating it my sleep anxiety has diminished greatly. Now that I can get into a deep sleep and feel better in the morning, I am excited to go to bed. I believe your sleep anxiety will diminish once your OSA is treated. And from there you will likely be able to start tapering off the Temazepam. Getting off a benzo can be challenging. Has to be done slowly.
Thanks! I know I have mild apnea, but just don't know how to interpret any of this. I have been using an oral appliance and it seems to be making a difference. I feel better, more rested. And no more morning anxiety.
How do I upload an image of my study?
Thank you for the response. I will have to check if the trays are touching in the back. A little less sore today. I have been taking it easier in the morning on the jaw reset. Letting a little time pass before working on my bite. I also notice that the tray slips off my top teeth sometimes. I have to bite back into the tray to get it back in place. It's weird because when I first clip-in the appliance it is tight, but as I relax, my mouth starts to open and can pull the tray down. Ugh.
