I use resmed's airsense 10, which uses the AirFit f20 full face mask. The DME and the order supply people tell me that my only choice is S, M, or L. Are there other masks that fit the resmed machine?

The best mask is the one you find easiest and most comfortable to use. Try any you can get your hands on. All masks have the same size fitting for the hose and all of them do the job of sealing against your face/nostrils to achieve increased pressure in your upper airway. The only difference between them is how well they suit you. Bear in mind that you can often get masks cheaply on Ebay, or other online retailers. Do a bit of googling and get some ideas. My current favourite full face masks are the Amara View (Respironincs) and the Simplus (Fisher & Paykel). Have you every tried anything but an full face mask? If not you mat want to consider a nasal or intranasal mask. I know lots of people who were only ever offered a full face mask but turned out to be fine with a nasal.

I was one of 6, in a group appointment, getting fitted for CPAP mask. I was none too sure about this whole thing. The gentleman sitting next to me was so happy to be back on insurance and able to go back to using CPAP, and gave me the best advice of anyone. Get the RIGHT mask and fit for a successful experience. There were a multitude of brands and types to try. The closest I got, was still not quite the right fit. Turns out there was an extra small size nasal pillow, not included in the standard Swift FX package, but definitely available. It pays to be persistent and get what is best for you.

What pressure was prescribed. If you have very high pressure, nasal masks may not be a good choice. I use very very high pressures and use an Amara View and it works quite well. I have tried nasal masks and found I drowned in them and I have used the FP Simplus sleeptech mentioned. It is OK but mine leaked air into my eyes and I had to use mask pads even after finding the correct size cushion; not really a major issue but the Amara View doesn't leak for me and no pads. Masks can be had relatively inexpensively so try them till you find one that suits and then try different cushions till you find the right size. I think the cushion size relates to the bridge of your nose width (just my dumb theory). When you buy glasses, there are three numbers (width of frame, width of nose bridge and last, the length of stems). I use a 16 or 17 nose bridge width and medium mask cushion. I could likely use a small. I am a fairly big guy and have a big head (joke) but the nose knows... skinny nose bridge!

Thanks guys, I was ready to just ditch the cpap, but now I will try other masks, I had no idea I could even do that! I was never given a choice on anything.
