I was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea 10 years ago. I have always gone though periods of time when I have headaches all day long after coming off of my C-Pap. I recently had a new sleep study and got a new C-Pap machine. I feel sometimes while sleeping I do not feel the air coming into my nose but I still manage to fall asleep. Often waking up still tired the next day. I just noticed after waking up from a nap that I could barely feel air pressure going in my nose. I am experimenting laying different ways hoping to find the best position for me at this time. Positions that were fine before are not working now. I was thinking maybe its something in my sinuses that are closing up and not intaking the air. Any suggestions or has anyone experienced this?

Hi, yes, I am struggling with the same question.....why the headaches??? I have headaches with onset during sleep. But I should add that I also have had chronic headaches for years. I started using a BiPAP 6 months ago, and found it relaxing for sleep, and I'm glad I'm preventing stroke and heart attack but hoping it would help with headaches. The big disappointment was that it didn't. Lately they have been worse, like daily. When I get up to urinate around 3 a.m. I start to notice one coming on. Normally, I may not get back to sleep, or I'd reawaken really early like 4-4:30 a.m. due to the headache pain and not be able to get back to sleep. But since I take an herbal product for sleep, plus melatonin and Zyrtec for allergies and that all keeps me asleep until 6 - 7 a.m. Still, it's no fun waking up with those dang headaches! Sometimes caffeine will help to get rid of it in an hour or so after I get up, but other times they last all day and are so draining!! I am tired all day most days. You would think that the CPAP or BiPAP would correct whatever is wrong in our sleep, but I'm not feeling much of a benefit, except they say it is preventive for stroke and HA so that is a comfort. I have the same experience of not even feeling the air pressure in my nose, but I know it's there when I take the hose off the nose piece and then it is strong and loud. I think it is the way the BiPAP works.

I'm a little confused because you keep switching terms between CPAP and BiPAP. Which are you using and what pressure(s) are you on? Both CPAP and BiPAP will only help with your headache if it caused by something respiratory- or sleep-related (just like a headache tablet won't help with your baldness).

When you can't feel the air, it's not because of something the machine is doing but rather it's you. Many people report that, once they are used to their PAP therapy, they can't feel the air any more until they lift the mask up to check. You should be able to feel the air coming out of the exhaust vent of the mask, unless you have a mask with a diffuser over the exhaust like the Fisher & Paykel Eson.

I have been taking baby aspirin for years on the advice of my doctor and have a full head of hair! So there!
