Benefits of a CPAP Pillow

The other day I took the plunge and bought a contour CPAP pillow. As we say here in the South, I hemmed and hawwed about it. $50-$60 for a pillow, in my estimation, is a lot of money. But, as it turns out, I couldn't be more pleased.

I'm a side sleeper. I needed a pillow that doesn't push my mask off when laying on my side.

My standard bed pillow, even the firm version, was poorly designed for me. Googling I discovered the Contour CPAP pillow from a company in Charlotte, South Carolina. Their pillows have construction making the pillow firm yet comfortable. In addition, it has oval notch carved on each side. This allows space for my headgear when sleeping on my side.

I've had the pillow for just a few days, but I really like it. The very first night it felt perfectly natural. So far, I've experienced no problem with leakage due to the pillow pushing my mask to one side. Plus, my ear doesn't feel sore the next day from sleeping on a too hard pillow.

I realize this sounds like a sales pitch and it's not. When I'm impressed with a product, I like to share my thoughts. Since you guys are my "apnea family", you get to hear me babble.

Thanks for listening and please share your thoughts and experiences.

Joe

I understand about pillows. For me, it is the arrangement of several pillows. I have to sleep on my back and it helps to have my head raised. I have used a wedge in the past for that gradual rise...but prefer my grouping of pillows instead...softer!

Also, being on my back required a higher pressure, but having my head higher removed the need for a higher pressure. I was able to request a wedge and took extra pillows for my last sleep study so I could duplicate how I slept at home!

@barbz, That's well thought out.

The Contour pillow now takes the place of one of my pillows. I sleep on my side, so I have another regular pillow under my torso and another small one between my knees. The one between my knees alleviates some issues I have with my lower back.

@Joseph,

Yeah for you. That Countour CPAP pillow did it for me, too. Like you, I am a sidesleeper and this pillow has made all the difference.

I just returned from a 10 day trip to MA. Brought my CPAP and my pillow with me and slept great. It was my first trip with CPAP and it went smoothly.

Before my trip, I ordered and tried a travel CPAP pillow by a different company. I just wanted to avoid bringing that large pillow in my luggage. That experiment did not work, and I am out $20., but at least I knew before the trip that I needed the countour CPAP pillow.

Onward...
