Hose placement

Where do you place your hoses when sleeping to avoid being strangled by them?

I use a heated hose which has wire in it and is relatively heavy. I started out by leaving it off to the side of the bed where the machine was, but found that it was constantly falling down and the weight of it was pulling on my mask and making it leak. Now what I do is loop it through the headboard so it is supported, and then route it down the center of the bed. I keep it under the covers in a big U shaped loop, so it goes down to about the tummy area and then back up to my mask. I mainly side sleep and when I face the center of the bed, I just leave it there in a big loop under the covers and supported by the bed. When I roll over to face the outside of the bed and the machine I let it cross my body in the tummy area and then route it up my other side still under the covers and supported by the bed. With a headboard that does not allow the looping of the hose, the alternative is to run it between the pillow and headboard and then bring it down the middle of the bed.

There are some masks like the DreamWear system that route the hose up over your head. I have not used one of those types. However, I wonder what they do with all that hose. I find that was my main problem, too much hose, and finding a place for it that was supported and not pulling on my mask.

I use the P10 pillow mask and find that the weight of the hose is enough to dislodge the mask. Some use a hose buddy but I use a velcro strap around the CPAP hose and a clip for either my PJs or my pillow. Works great!

I bought a CPAP hose holder some years ago and although it is just a cheap foldable toy it is still working quite well although it is not really self supporting (not enough weight) so the base needs be under something. I usually tuck it under the bedside table so it only takes up a finger thickness coming up between the table and bed. When there was no furniture to jam it under I've simply stacked books on the base to stabilise it.

If I had a complaint it would be that this holder could have been a little higher for a bed with a thick mattress.

The main hose is mostly on the floor and feeds just to the holder then the lighter hose loops to the headgear. The light hose is hardly resting on the bed at all and the flexibility of the holder enables an increased range of movement.

Before that I used to just loop the hose through the bedhead, with just enough hose on the pillow to enable movement, but we have no bedhead now.

Thanks for the responses. I will try looping thing tonight :) Hose holder looks like it takes up more room, but I'll try that if the looping thing does not work.
