CPAP, dry mouth and cavities

Have used CPAP sporadically for more than 20 years. Most recently started Feb 2016 after unsuccessful trial of oral appliance. I use the Airsense 10 with Amara View mask, as larger masks created scar on upper nose. As mouthbreather, dry mouth was an issue and Bioteen is not help so used sugar free hard candy for dry mouth. I have periodontal disease as well as several other autoimmune diseases, but my dentists say my oral hygiene is great. However I still have had at least 20 new or recurrent cavities in last 2 years. Had anyone else with dry mouth had this problem? Or do any of the professionals here know if the sugarless candies would have contributed?

I had a similar experience with dry mouth. I solved it (with my dentists help) by getting teeth guards made (the ones typically used for bleaching) and wearing them while I sleep. I fill the guards with biotine gel before putting them on. It lasts all night and eliminates the dry mouth. Biotine has no negative health or dental effects. >

Thanks for response, right now I'm trying chin strap and xylitol. Biotene mouthwash was not helpful. The xylitol and chin strap seem to be helping for now but won't know for awhile if affects cavities. Because of my age and periodontal issues not sure if teeth guards would work. I never had the issue before using Amara View mask, but others were hitting bridge of my nose.

Good luck. I use the Biotene Gel, not the mouthwash. Also not sure what effect of age is, I am 70.

Ask your dentist about Perio Protect trays to use during the day. This may be your answer.
