This Inspire technology has come up in the past with essentially the same question(s) you are asking. To search this site, go to google.com and type:
site:www.myapnea.org inspire
That will show the past threads on this subject. Try other sleep apnea related forums again as apparently this isn't a widely used technology at this time so there won't be a zillion threads.
The published success rate is 68% with better results coming in post-trial studies. You need to have tried and failed CPAP, have a BMI less than 35, have an AHI between 15-65 and have no significant central sleep apnea and be above the age of 22. After this you need pass an airway exam which is performed in the OR under sedation. It is typically an outpatient procedure with minimal side effects beyond incision pain. Potential complications include device infection, tongue weakness and collapsed lung.
I just had Inspire implant 2 months ago, my activation was the end of December. So far so good, i am still trying to get use to the device, but i am sleeping better, not snoring, the arrow is pointing up for me.
