Straps too small and tight

Hi all, I've been using a ResMed 10 for about 6 weeks now, with nasal pillows (airfit P10). The only problem I'm having is the the straps on the mask are straight up too small for my head. I can't loosen it, it's just an elastic strap. This is not surprising to me, I'm aware that the circumference of my head is bigger than average. But it's smashing into my nostrils which is now red and irritated all the time.

What do I do? As far as I can tell it doesn't come in any other sizes. Do I need to get a totally different apparatus? Can I just cut the stupid mask straps and sew in some elastic? Advice appreciated.

Thanks, Adrienne

I would cut and add a velcro strip for added length and adjustability.

And I have to cut and shrink my strap to make it fit my itty bitty head.

You might want to consider converting it to the Swift FX Headgear.

This is how I did it.

Usually all headgear comes in different sizes--I don't know of any that comes as a one-size fits all. Finding the correct size would be better than trying to fix it yourself however, you do what you think best.

Check to see if they offer other sizes. I know my first Swift FX came with small, medium and large nasal pillows. Small felt better than medium, but I wondered if extra small existed. I asked, and sure enough, there is such a thing, and works great.

You can extend or make your own headgear. Make it so it can be adjusted with Velcro. The Swift FX headgear might be an option for over the head (but you might as well use Swift FX then, but the rear strap might be to small anyway, but make one and make it long enough with the soft Velcro covering most of the strap and two bits either end to attach it at the right length. It might be a bit tight to get through the loops, but with a bit of care it should fit and if you make it so as it is thinnest with no Velcro at the loops it should work fine. Or do as "Bonjour" said, just add a bit with Velcro to give it more length.

The headgear on the Swift FX is very good and is adjustable. However the mask itself and specifically the design of the purge venting is terrible. It does not diffuse the air flow and is kind of like sleeping with a jet engine.
