So I recently purchased a cool weighted blanket that weights 20lb. It is for sure a very heavy blanket that has 4"x4" pockets filled with tiny ceramic pellets. It completely gets rid of air pockets when pulled over and kelps ti literally pin me down in bed. I find that I fall asleep immediately when I use the blanket and tend to stay sleep uninterrupted through the night? Have you ever experienced a weighted blanket? What is your take on it?

No, but I’ve been tempted by them. Interesting to hear a success story. Maybe I’ll try one. Are the pockets with pellets only around the edges? Or allover? And how does the cool factor work?

The pockets are sewn into the fabric all over so even weight distribution. If you have Prime membership at Amazon, you can always return it up to 30 days, if you don't like it. I think it would be too hot to use in summer or in warm climates, unless you have good A/C, but in winter we keep the bedroom pretty cool at night so the blanket works great.

I suspect this is a very personal thing like a pillow. My preference for a bed covering is something light, warm, and a cool room (64 F or a bit less). We are currently using a silk comforter.

For sleep issues I have found this site at the link below helpful. It advocates CBTi over a medication solution. In particular I have found the tips for the hygiene of sleep helpful. The site was started by a university pharmacy professor that was concerned about the number of hip injuries due to falls in elderly people using sleeping pills.

Heavy blankets would work quite well for me, especially because I use the blanket as a kind of restraint.

I think there is need for caution though because some issues might be made worse by heavy blankets.
