I just started using this mask a few weeks ago, and I am enjoying it. When I was cleaning the pillows I removed the defuser.

I came across this ResMed video and they don't remove the defuser. I would think if the cotton/fabric inside the part was wet, it would cause problems. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xEHEMrFwsGg

Should I be removing the defuser? It is very simple to remove, and simple to reassemble. I am sure I saw a video or pictures of the defuser being removed for cleaning.

The manual says to soak in soap and water, and then let it air dry. It would seem that water will not harm it. See page 4 in the manual at the link below.

I asked ResMed, they replied:

Yes, the QuietAir vent you're referring to is designed to be washed and cleaned as a part of the mask/pillow components, exactly as outlined in the video and your user guide: rinse, soft bristle brush cleaning, air dry out of direct sunlight.

So, I shouldn't be removing it before cleaning. Tomorrow morning I will clean the "filter" with the cushion. I will see how well it dries before I use it tomorrow night.

I see it's been a while since this was discussed, but I wanted to ask—has anyone tried using a CPAP soap for cleaning instead of mild detergent? I’ve been using one lately, and it seems to rinse out well without leaving residue. Also, how often do you all clean the headgear? I’ve been doing it weekly, but I wonder if washing it more often would help with wear and tear.
