I asked ResMed, they replied:
Yes, the QuietAir vent you're referring to is designed to be washed and cleaned as a part of the mask/pillow components, exactly as outlined in the video and your user guide: rinse, soft bristle brush cleaning, air dry out of direct sunlight.
So, I shouldn't be removing it before cleaning. Tomorrow morning I will clean the "filter" with the cushion. I will see how well it dries before I use it tomorrow night.
That makes sense. I would always remove the stand-alone filter on my other masks. I never tried washing the filter, I would replace it. This filter is inside a casing, so I would think it wouldn't dry as quickly inside the case.
I will try washing it when I am ready to replace the cushion.
Thank you. That is where I saw it, I looked over the manual but didn't see it until you mentioned page four. Page four shows it being removed.
I wouldn't think getting the fabric wet would be good. Having the vent removed would speed up drying time as well.
I just started using this mask a few weeks ago, and I am enjoying it. When I was cleaning the pillows I removed the defuser.
I came across this ResMed video and they don't remove the defuser. I would think if the cotton/fabric inside the part was wet, it would cause problems. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xEHEMrFwsGg
Should I be removing the defuser? It is very simple to remove, and simple to reassemble. I am sure I saw a video or pictures of the defuser being removed for cleaning.
I use F&P masks with my ResMed machine. If I have the "pillows" setting on the machine will automatically shut off when I remove the mask. It doesn't matter if I am using a pillow mask or a nasal mask the machine will shut off as it should. If the setting is nasal, the machine doesn't shut off. This wasn't always the case.
My smart start/stop has started working again. I switched mask types, from a nostril mask to a nasal pillow and changed the setting on the machine. It still wasn't shutting off until I switched masks while the machine was on. Normally I take the mask off my face. In the middle of the night I removed the mask from the tube while the machine was running, and before I could attach the other mask the machine turned off on its own. The next morning I removed my mask as usual and after a few seconds smart start turned the machine off. For some reason, now it is working as it should.
I don't understand what changed has taken place that the machine understands I am no longer wearing the mask and shuts itself off.
It is working as it should.
Okay, thank you. If I take a nap during the day I usually don't put water in the tank.
I get 0 often enough, and readings under 1.0 most of the time. The machine is in CPAP mode.
If I don't use the CPAP I will snore, and wake up with headaches. If I do use it, I have low readings.
It might be time to get a new machine.
If you are good with repairing electronics, and can find the part number for the defective part you can search for that. If you can't fix it yourself I don't know. Some people won't fix medical equipment, but your laws may vary.
Ask your doctor to look at the data on the machine. You might not have a high enough pressure.
What brand of machine do you use?
