I tried the over the nose mask for one week and was told I breathe through my mouth and need the full face mask which I tried last night. I hate it. I was told a strap would not work. The girl basically said to me to use the full face mask or leave without a machine. She was really nice and supportive the first time I saw her but was extremely rude to me yesterday when I told her I wanted to try the different masks before buying one with the machine, which is $2500.

Am I overblowing this or should I go to a different store?

Hi Marion,

If you haven't already purchased the machine or if you have the right to return it I would suggest you try a different store or better yet, if you have the option just buy everything online. You could buy several masks with the money you would save.

Did she give you a reason why a strap would not work?

Where are you located? $2500 in Canada or the US is way too much for a machine. The excellent ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet is in the $800 CDN in Canada. May be a bit more in the US but still in the $800 US range.

While it is not for everyone, I use a nasal pillow mask, and would open my mouth at night letting air pressure out, and now tape my mouth to let me continue to use a nasal mask. See this link for more information.

A different store, unless this is 100% covered by your insurance with no co-pays or deductibles.

And even then . . . . . .

I also struggled with mouth breathing but wanted to use a nasal pillow. I learned how to tape my mouth and eventually adjusted. I have become extremely comfortable now, sometimes forgetting I have the tape on. At first air escaped even with some taping, so I did have to stick with it for a while. As for your experience with the store, please go find another store or buy on line. There's no need to deal with a nonresponsive or unpleasant sales person.

They should absolutely let you try the mask you want. They can make suggestions but I don't think they should just ignore you. And there is no reason why you couldn't try a chin strap. It sounds like they're just being lazy.
