I have 12-15 event per hour using my cpap machine. Is that OK? How do I lower that number? I only sleep 5-6 hours a night, usually from 10:30-3:30. I take Ambien 12.5er every night!

Hi dmoor 80 :

It seems we all are different but 12-15 is not good enough for me . My post follows yours- next (PJK ) on this Forum . 4 days ago I had a record low for me at 6.5 . I finally felt well and rested and that the first time in 5 years . At 12.5 I did not -although better than at 20 .

If one can score 6.5 one night it seems thats possible for other nights . But I'm still searchuimh for the key to that . The RESMED 10 now provides you a chart ( app- My Air ) ) each day with readouts for all the key pests ( mask leaks etc , sleep taken - minimum 7 hrs for a full score , and so on ). Last night I has a score of 99 out of 100 even though my AHI was 8.5. It would have scored at top ( 100) had the AHI been below 5 .

The MY Air app with the RESMED 10 does help to encourage more focus and intent at scoring higher and so I'm trying to follow that . But if I could get an AHI under 5, I would be over the moon ! But Im still going to keep at it as in previous 5 years it was one day after another of just managing to get along ( dreary /exhausted ). I can't live that way any longer and am determined to get/do the best I can on this subject- to escape this trap/nightmare .

If you feel very rested at 12-15 AHI maybe thats all you need .

Its that feeling of rested and energized that I need to get back to - the feeling of " its great to get up " I feel renewed . Until I can get that back I will not have achieved my objection regardless of numbers . But so far the lower the AHI the closer I seem to get to that rested and re-charged feeling .

Good luck

pjs

Have you tried sleeping without the ambien? Sleep meds can adversely affect your AHI. You might also try changing you setting to straight CPAP if you are using the Resmed A10 in APAP mode. Everyone is different, but an AHI of 5 is a common goal.

Without Ambien I sleep 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 hours a night like clockwork. With Ambien 5 1/2 - 6 1/2. What is straight CPAP steeting. I am using a RESMED AINSENSE 10 AUTO.

You can change a setting on your machine so that it delivers a CONSTANT pressure instead of a range. You might experiment with it to see if you get better AHI numbers. As for the Ambien, it is not the hours that we sleep that is important but the quality of the sleep. If those extra hours help you then stick with it.

The standard target is to be under 5. Ambient may not be helping. Google a site called sleepwell it is no dream. You also need to know your ratio of central apnea to total apnea. A CPAP generally does not improve central apnea.

Howdy all,

I am new at this CPAP stuff.... I was clocked at 66 events per hour, with no breathing as high as 92 secs ! Scared the #$@$ out of me ! :)

Having roller coaster ride for the last 3 weeks and averaging 8 events per hr now. I am sure feeling better and hope with some tweaks I can get the average down to 5 or so.

I take Imrest for sleeping, it can take quite a long time to fall to sleep otherwise, up until last night though, once I am asleep I sleep non stop.

Before CPAP I was averaging 10-11 hrs of sleep but felt no good for it, now back to a 8-9 hr session and feel amazing !
