My air pressure increases due to full face mask air leaks. That makes sense. What makes no sense to me is the fact that it stays at max pressure and the only way to get the pressure down, is to turn the machine off.
Clearly, there’s a problem with the algorithm if it stops responding once you correct the air leak. In addition, sometimes my machine will turn off once I remove my mask, sometimes it won’t. Turning the machine off to adjust the pressure is not an option if I’m asleep.
Is this a defective machine? I just had it replaced for the same issue.
I can’t get a straight answer from resmed or my provider.
Having the machine auto adjust to max pressure and then fail to respond to normal breathing and blow the mask off your face can’t be normal.

Hi geode1
It seems to me that if you did a search for references to people being concerned because of these machines increasing pressure in various circumstances you would find that it is way more common than anybody is acknowledging.
This is one of those times when it would be good to copy the SD card data to your computer and see what it has to say about the events. Previous Example.
I would suggest you download OSCAR to have a look at the data on your SD card. It should give you a good idea what is going on. The software is free, and you need a PC or Mac with a SD card reader.
I just woke from my second night using the resmed. I experienced the same thing! I couldn’t get the mask to stop leaking because the pressure was so high! I had to turn off the machine also. I hope someone can help us! Is this normal?
Again, I would suggest you download OSCAR at the link in the previous post. It will tell you what all your machine settings are and how the pressure is changing during the night. When the machine is in Auto it adjusts the pressure based on how many events you are having. OSCAR will let you see when those events are occurring and if the machine is responding as it should.
i had the same problem using a dream station. i have changed settings that suit me. pressures are min 8 ,max 11. no more leaking full face mask.since the changes 90 day av. ( ahi 2.4/ total clear airway apneas 5/ total obstructive apneas 14/ total hypopneas 8 ) the provider was not pleased when told i changed the settings. original settings caused many nights of broken sleep, some times awake 3 times. btw,if you change any settings and the sd card is left in the machine the settings will reset to original when used next. i remove the sd card and replace it now and then to retrieve data to up date OSCAR. the pressures i am using were trial and error, many combinations until i settled on 8/11.you can only try if not happy.i now sleep all night. happy
