I just set up a myAir account on the Resmed website for my new Resmed AirCurve 10 biPap machine. On the website they never asked for the wireless access key (password) to my home wireless network. Still, the machine is sending data to Resmed for my therapy sessions on a daily basis. If the machine can't log into my home wireless network, how is it sending the data to Resmed???

To elaborate, the ResMed machine doesn't communicate with your home wireless router but as madjack pointed out, the machine sends data to not only ResMed but your DME who is responsible for compliance issues.

Yes, ResMed call it AirView Patient Management System that enables your medical professional to access data from your device securely. If you turn on Airplane mode that disables all network transmission.

Here is the manual to set the Airplane mode: https://67ac560487f080ca6e36-644d1ce4286e3a982d7af3ad6d26d14e.ssl.cf1.rackcdn.com/airplanemodeflyer.pdf

I agree - it's creepy. The manufacturers never asked anyone if they want all of their data consonantly transmitted back to the manufacturer forever. I can;t help but imagine it's a way for them to push more product on you. "Hi Mr Smith, this is ResMed. Your mask leak was a little high last night. It must be time to buy a new one". I think that the idea of constantly harvesting info from all of you consumers without their consent or knowledge is more than a little ethically shady.

I have used a ResMed machine for a number of years and during the first year received email "tips" of various sorts which may have indicated marketing but I don't recall too much as I didn't read them carefully. They stopped sending these emails after a period of time. I think the main reason for the cellular signals is to send info to the DME who supplied the ResMed machine so they could report compliance to the insurance company paying them.
