Has the pressure always been on 5 or have you adjusted it to 5?

How long is it since you had any adjustments made by specialists?

The reason I ask is that 5 would not work for most sufferers unless they were on their side because the real pressure to open the airways is mostly needed when you lie on your back.

It would be good to know your O2 levels when you first wake with brain fog.

I think you will need to read the data on the machine which is something that Sierra (in this forum) is good at.

If you were not convinced that it was as a result of sleeping on your back with the CPAP I would suggest you look for other causes not related directly to CPAP especially as your numbers (including age) are quite low.

I will let others deal with the machine and gear but how long does the fog last, what does your doctor have to suggest and could you get something to test O2 levels?

I really do love numbers and statistics.

They are the ultimate tool for the twisted. (that's me) And they are the fastest way to invoke chaos or destroy any opposition yet they still maintain the illusion of respectability.

So what do the numbers say. Two people died with their masks on. Is there a historical precedent?

It is widely accepted that most cowboys died with their boots on.
If they had banned the sale of cowboy boots what would have been the effect?
Barefoot cowboys would have been less inclined to be standing on the hot surface of main street at high noon. Leading to a rapid drop in the death rate of cowboys without boots. The logical conclusion is that cowboy boots were dangerous.
We needn't mention that barefoot cowboys would now be dying of snakebite or gangrene instead.

So is a CPAP machine dangerous?

The jury is out but in the meantime not using one might have worse odds.

Once again Sierra you are right in the details but in this case I do wonder about the bigger picture.

We mere humans tend to misunderstand, misuse and often abuse developing technologies so my first query would revolve around those issues.

The other query is a much more difficult area to get a handle on. Dependence.

Yes it's a ludicrous argument on the surface but is it something we can safely dismiss?

Ok so they haven't invented a Startrek CPAP machine yet! The point is that you need to provide enough information for a response and then return. Who knows. Maybe someone out there has figured out how to adapt a Borg mask to their Resmed machine. Personally I reckon the Darth Vader mask would be easier to rig up but it is rumored to be noisy and it looks so uncomfortable!

I suspect the naps might become a habit or choice dependent on your age but lets hope she is right about the rest. :)

I'm not sure what machine or settings you are using but although I don't use the ramp function myself it sounds like you might be more comfortable if it was adjusted to suit your needs.

It might pay to check with your doctor, if you haven't already done so, regarding the best sleeping or anxiety medications to use with OSA as some are more dangerous than others.
