Welcome, Dave, and you are on the right track. CPAP therapy is a journey that works best with a positive attitude. Good luck and I wish you the best of luck...as I said...think positive and it will all come together.
There are some very small units out there. Google small CPAP devices. Check the reviews on the larger online CPAP stores. Most of these stores have serious unit rating...as they realize others want to know.
Not sure I can mention sites, but two good sites are Direct Home Medical and CPAP.com
I got the app Motion/24. It is on my smartphone and seems to do a good job. I do not like the idea of keeping any electronic device near my head. Worried there could be a problem concerning emissions. COMMENTS WELCOME ON THIS!
It still gave a good diagram of my sleep...even though I had it nearer to my waist. Will try it once near head to see if there is a big difference.
I used the Sleeptracker watch several years ago, but it now needs a new battery. Looks like I have to send it back to company! Have to call about that. It gave a super print out. I compared it to my software and it was right on.
OK, it showed deep sleep during which Sleepyhead showed I had many OA events...so not a good judge of restorative sleep.
@AgreeableEmeraldMantis8403 I have long had trouble exhaling against the pressure. You need to let you Doctor know as a different type of machine may be needed. The auto sleep machines have two pressures and adapt to your needs. After many years, I finally got a BIPAP which has a higher pressure for inhaling and a lower one for exhaling.
My sinuses have protested stronger and stronger since I started in 2007. After a terrible summer of mental fog, balance issues, constant need of decongestants to stop from constantly coughing....I finally decided to pull out the oral mask I had tried once before...aka the Oracle, by Fischer Paykel...is the only mask for me. I have a new auto BIPAP that works beautifully. I used the heated hose and humidity all the way up.
My sinuses are slowly retreating in their assault on my head. I did use the medrol dose pack of prednisone to help them quiet down. I can actually think once more. Balance is better also.
A gentleman on another forum has claustrophobia and uses the oral mask by Fischer Paykel, the Oracle. It is not known as the easiest mask, but some do not even have to use the neck strap!
I just jumped in posting! Started my CPAP, now BIPAP journey in 2007 at age 63. Had to fight that label of depression by agreeing to see a psychiatrist before my primary would order my sleep test. Long story before this...not needed here. I have tried to be positive and compliant. Never had that WOW result after starting treatment, but it sure is better than it was!
So far my Oracle journey is remaining positive. Been trying different things. Put a waterproof cream on lips, use a liner I 'designed' that is between my lips and the outer flap.
I asked my primary Doctor for that short medrol dose pack (prednisone) to quiet my sinuses. Now that the air is not going through them they have no reason to be upset. My last day on it today and it did seem to help. At least I am not coughing all day. Had to constantly use nasal spray or decongestants to stop cough.
Waiting for the results of a PET scan. Balance and mental clariety continue to improve since starting with the Oracle. I have to make this mask work!
This is one reason the Inspire therapy is something I am curious about. I like having another option! My sleep apnea treatment is still a battle...one I am trying to be positive about! Gone through 14 masks...til I realized what my sinuses were trying to tell me..."We don't like that air!"
He still believes in the straight pressure, whether CPAP or BIPAP. Should have stated I am new to BIPAP. Love it as I have weak exhalation. He faxed the order for my BIPAP, but stated he was not happy doing so. I have printed out one week of results that I want to show him...just how my unit delivers just what I need.
With the new technology, are the straight CPAP/BIPAP still considered better than the auto? I find I can breath more naturally with my auto. I am getting good results also...AHI of .68 to 6.7. My doctor let me order it, but was definitely not happy with my choice.
