I failed using CPAP 2 years ago due to nasal mask issues. Just started again. Got a mask that covered nose and mouth from sleep study but it makes my face break out. So ordered a nasal/mouth mask that goes under nose. It wont hold a seal. The CPApP machine doesn't register it but I get hissing in various places, air in eyes and any number of leakage issues and the rash albeit in a smaller area. So I went back to the second mask mentioned and coated my skin with vaseline (AMA) since I have to comply with so many hours. While it works better, one of the reasons I went on CPAP is because my shoulders are breaking down from sleeping on my side and foreward for many years. Well I still snore on my back. Pressure is 7. I am more tired than ever. I am returning undernose/mouth mask tomorrow but have no idea what to do. I have Fibromyalgia with touch sensitivities and know a chin strap will not work. As it is I am sore from the straps even though they are only as tight as necessary. Yet I am willing to tolerate the soreness and headaches if it helps. So tired, so frustrated.

A product called Lansinoh, for breast feeding mothers, is better for a seal and your skin. It is also better for your mask. Even liners help. I make my own from microfiber cloths I buy at Walmart for under $3. Name is Smudge Off.

Hi @CalmBeigeMoose8940. The advice from Barbz about mask liners might help. You can Google CPAP mask liners and find products that can be ordered online. They serve as a barrier between your skin and the mask material. You can also try cutting your own using a soft cotton fabric like Moleskin. I would encourage you to avoid Vaseline, as the petroleum might cause breakdown or damage to the mask seal. Best wishes, and keep us posted on your progress!

You need to keep trying different masks until you find the best fit. I had tried a few and then I found WISP. I love it. I use a liner evertime I use it. Wish I knew how to sew as those liners are expensive.

I too have been dealing with mask fit issues. I bought a padacheek liner and have learned that if your mask is too tight or too loose you will have seal issues.

It's so much experimenting! It gets frustrating for sure. It does help to make sure your skin is free of any oils or makeup. Always make sure that you have the right size too. The sleep people didn't believe me when I said I needed an extra small size but it works for me. Most of the time, anyway.
